Gorham-Windham Local & Legendary Kick-off

Gorham and Windham residents young and old attended the kick-off celebration on Sunday, September 29, for the Local & Legendary Civil War project being run collaboratively by the two towns. The event was held at Great Falls School in Gorham, followed by a field trip to tour the Gambo Mill site, which is the subject of much of the towns’ focus this year.

Team members introduced and explained the activities of the project, sold books that will be featured in a community read, and shared apples, donuts, and cider with the crowd. Don Westcott, of the Presumpscot Regional Land Trust, gave an illustrated presentation on the history of the Mill, which once provided 25% of the Union gunpowder during the Civil War, prior to leading the tour of the site.
